This site went through a re-design beginning in 2006. The www.vatcher.com web site was formerly oriented to being a "family web site", with much to do about the Vatcher clan out of
Montreal, Canada. The new focus is whatever is interesting at the time. I will do my best to keep it updated
with current and interesting material.
I'm very much into cars; predominantly muscle cars of the 60's, as well
as Corvettes. As a result, much of the site is about cars and car related material. However, there will still
be information and stories about the Vatcher family as well as friends. I welcome all material that might be of
interest to the Vatchers.
To the right you can see pictures of my 1962 Corvette. My Corvette
was "born" on December 13, 1961. I bought her in June of 2003, and have worked hard to make her as reliable as any other
car on the road. I have driven her on multi-thousand mile trips without incident!
Owning a 62 Corvette was a dream of mine from the time the 62 Corvette
was announced. The 1962 Corvette was the first and last of many things. For example:
- First year of the 327 motor. For it's time, that was a great design.
- First year of an aluminum case for the automatic transmission.
- Heaters were standard for the first time in 1962. If you were a racing type, you could
order the car with the "heater delete" option!
- Seat belts were standard for the first time.
- Last year of this body style. 1963 brought the 1st of the Stingrays
and the famous "split window coupe".
- 62 was the only year of this body style when a different color in the side cove was not offered.
1962 Corvettes were all one solid color as were virtually all Corvettes from that time forward.
- Last year of exposed headlights; until the 2005 Corvette came out!
- Last year of a "real trunk" until the 1998 convertible.
- Last year of the "solid axle".
